The first ever “Itorero” for Rwandan youth in Belgium

For the first time ever, about 100 youths with Rwandan origin from Rwanda living in  Europe, mainly Belgium, will meet in Belgium in a five day “Itorero”  that will be full of merry making, fun, exciting and educative dialogue involving a wide range of topics mostly on Rwanda all in one place.

This event is organised by the Rwandan embassy in Belgium in partnership with Diaspora-Belgium and the KLM Airlines. It will be a special occasion for the youths to end their holidays and start the year with a lot of expectations, focus and the urge to work hard.

This “Itorero’’ will take place from the 1s to 5th, September, 2010 at the European center “La Foresta” in Belgium. The programme agenda includes conferences, debates, sports and games, drama and many other activities that will keep the youths in a celebration mood!

The criterion to participate for all those interested includes - they should be from 18 years and above - registration started 15th, August, 2010 and participation fee is 50 Euros.  We shoul recall here that “Itorero” was a cultural school and it was the channel through which the nation could convey messages to the people regarding national culture in areas such as language, patriotism, social relations, sports, dances and songs, defence of the nation, etc.

It is a Rwandan civic education institution which aims mainly at teaching all Rwandese to keep their culture through its different values such as national unity, social solidarity, patriotism, integrity, bravery, tolerance, the dos and don’t’s of the society,  etc. Through this instrument, Rwandans will also keep informed of Government policies and programmes; which will strengthen ownership of these policies and promote the role of the population in the implementation of these social-economic development programmes.

Important to note is that there are lots of prizes to be won doing the Itorero 2010 such as a chance to win an air ticket from Brussels to Kigali courtesy  of KLM Airlines as it showcases the newly introduced KLM route, air tickets for a holiday elsewhere, restaurant pass and T-shirts for those who will highly perform in different competitions to take place during this Itrero and these prizes make this Itorero different from other sessions organized in Rwanda .

The morning schedule on agenda includes Itorero sports, a Presentation on the Itorero concept, debate on ‘The role of the youth in the preservation of the Rwandan culture’ and vision 2020.

Later in the afternoon, learning one aspect of the Rwandan culture by choice (dances, drama, or Kinyarwanda language) and Drama play entitled “Youths of Rwanda in history”.
