Diaspora team impresses Bugesera residents

A team of about twenty Rwandans living in the Diaspora yesterday visited Bugesera District and impressed residents with their ideas of eradicating grass thatched houses by helping them build modern houses.

The team visited sites where they intend to implement the “Bye Bye Nyakatsi” Project, which was initiated by the government in partnership with the Rwandan Diaspora

under their umbrella body, Rwandan Diaspora Global Network (RDGN), to phase-out grass thatched houses in the country.

Speaking to hundreds of residents, the head of RDGN, Gustave Karara, said that although many Rwandans live in the Diaspora, they can never forget their roots and are willing to assist their fellow Rwandans any way possible.

“With the speed Rwanda is moving forward, nobody should be left behind by development. That is why we want to make sure that within two years, nobody in Rwanda will still be living in a grass thatched house,” Karara said.

He urged residents to put more emphasis on family planning so that they can plan and manage their families within affordable means.

Notable figures of the team that visited Bugesera included Keza Ruzima, a fifteen year old Rwandan author living in Canada, who recently donated US$ 2,000 to the One Dollar Campaign Project, and Jackie Mugabo, a Rwandan musician living in the U.K.
