| “AUSTRIA-RWANDA SOCIETY” VISIT |

Austria was renowned to have a major influence in Rwanda before the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi and had numerous Austrian-run NGOs especially in the rural development sector and their activities were wide spread all over Rwanda.
The above mentioned activities all stopped and it is on this note that this society was born and it has to work with both sides related authorities for model and fruitful links between both countries.
A delegation from the society had its first visit in Rwanda on May 20-28, 2010 and this kick-started their activities. During the visit, the delegation visited the Genocide memorial site at Gisozi and paid respect to the innocent victims.
As the visit aimed to find out the society role and impact to the improvement of the relationships, the delegation paid a visit to RDB, PSF and URWIBUTSO enterprise to get basic information on the investment climate and opportunities in Rwanda and build a networking channel between both countries institutions.
By the and of the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the DGD and their parent ministry, MINAFFET and to collect diplomatic and bilateral related information and have a look on the kind of intermediation role; the society can play.
The Austria-Rwanda Society is also interested in the sector of education. In the framework of introducing its activities in this sector, the delegation visited Ndera Primary School to open the cooperation between both sides. Ndera Primary School is a historic school for the society since one of its committee members attended the same school many years ago.
The cooperation between Austria-Rwanda Society and Ndera Primary School will firstly concentrate on covering fees for poor students and thereafter other projects will developed. For the first move, the cooperation started with 700,000 Rwf and the whole amount will be used to cover school fees for neediest students.
